Vehicles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm
Area Police
Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior political figure commented the incident left him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
